Physicist Sandro Rossi
Sandro Rossi is a prominent Italian physicist and a leading global authority in accelerator physics and particle therapy. He graduated cum laude in Physics from the State University of Milan in 1989. He subsequently dedicated his career to the development, construction, and clinical implementation of complex particle accelerators designed for cancer treatment. As Director General of the National Centre for Oncological Hadrontherapy (CNAO) since 2008, Rossi has led the facility to treat over 5,000 patients with advanced proton and carbon ion therapy. Previously, as Technical Director, he oversaw the center's design and construction. Beyond his leadership at CNAO, he serves as President of CNAO Next and coordinates HITRIplus, an EU-funded initiative advancing heavy ion therapy. He is a key figure in linking high-energy physics with clinical oncology, maintaining strong collaborations with institutions like CERN.
